What You Need To Know About Dress Shirts
1. Before you start designing a dress shirt, you have to know your measurements. There are 2 important measures for creating dress shirts - the circumference of your neck and your sleeve length. Dress shirts don't cling well to the body if you have these 2 sizes wrong.
ModernTailor recommends that you measure your best-fitting dress shirt and provide the measurements to us. If you do not have a dress shirt that fits you well, you may want to read this guide on how to measure yourself.
2. Dress shirts usually come in three fits - Slim, Regular, or Full. Slim fit dress shirts may also be labeled as Athletic or Tailored fit. This fit is the tightest of the three, and would normally hug to the body more. Regular fit dress shirt is the standard size. It's your safest bet in picking out a dress shirt size that won't cling too much to the body or give too much space making it too big for your frame. The Full fit is perfect for a body with bigger frames. Aside from being larger than average, its length is also usually a little longer.

Patterns and Prints
The general rule is not to use more than 2 patterns on a single occasion. However, if you have to wear similar patterns, say striped dress shirt and striped tie, you'd have to pay attention on scale. At all times, the patterns on the tie should be bigger than the patterns on the dress shirt. The background fabric (the dress shirt) should not overpower the pattern of the tie. This logic applies to checkered patterns as well.

Dress Shirt Fabrics
Men look for dress shirts with high quality fabrics. This connotes durability and comfort. 100% cotton dress shirts are considered high quality shirts. Cotton fabrics are soft and comfortable to the skin. It easily absorbs sweat and remains presentable even after numerous washings. Colors also stay longer on cotton fabrics. Egyptian cotton is considered to be the best quality cotton around. The higher the thread count of the cotton fabric, the better it is. A word of caution though, very high thread counts, those exceeding 150s tend to be silkier. These fabrics are very expensive and high maintenance. Careful hand-wash and dry cleaning are your only options.

The Buttons
It's not plain vanity to prefer mother of pearl buttons more than a regular plastic buttons. Most plastic buttons break in two when the dress shirt is not laundered properly. Some dress shirts have gauntlet buttons that creates a neat look when the sleeves are folded up.
Your ModernTailor dress shirts can be made with high quality mother of pearl buttons.
